Sitting waterfront the two-storey abode boasts a swimming pool and an inner courtyard with a lawn separating the property from water.

The project is proposed for a lot in Arizona by Nick Tsontakis and was supposed to be built in 2015. The 16,370 square feet (1,520 sq m) property promised 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms as well as a swimming pool in a shape of a marquise diamond.
Its exterior is far from what we’re used to calling ‘luxurious’. The rough concrete blocks with glass and rusty metal inclusions aren’t the most common materials for modern mansions, but it works really well with its location environment and makes it stand out among others.
Modern design implies practicality and modern mansions follow the principle to an extent. Sometimes unusual shapes and design concepts take over and that’s when these homes become truly impressive. But be advised they are, most of the time, priced ridiculously high. So let’s see these outstanding finds below.
Built for relaxation and large-scale entertaining, this home features a sleek modern kitchen, an open floor plan with concrete floors, and oodles of natural light. A floating stainless steel staircase leads to the second floor, where the master suite boasts a deep soaking tub with glass walls on two sides and views of the backyard. It was built with an ecological conscience, including solar hot water and electricity, radiant heat and a garage with two electric car chargers — plus a large grassy area out back suitable for garden parties and watching hummingbirds. The listing agent is Laura Brau of Partners Trust.
The $16,5 million property was planned with a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a glass-encased elevator.
1877 Rising Glen Rd, Los Angeles, CA For sale: $17.75 million
The back of the house is even bigger on glass walls and windows. There is a waterless landscape and an old ranch-style fence that surrounds the property land. A perfect mix of modernism and tradition lends this house both luxury and cosiness.
Modern mansions can be too expensive to build, but when it comes to big building conversions you might just be in luck. This used to be a dairy barn, according to Curbed. Now it’s a contemporary mansion with a price tag of $8.5 million.
This one may look like a more traditional mansion because it is an old water cleaning station abandoned in the 70’s. Today, though, it is a modern mansion that was transformed by an interior designer Bernadette Jacques.
The modern trend of converting old buildings into modern homes didn’t make a huge impact on the exterior, though. It’s very true to its traditional style. The designer even preserved some parts of the station equipment inside, but in all other senses it is a very modern home.
According to The Agency this luxurious Beverly Hills mansion is a ‘museum-quality’ home with 15,500 square feet (1,439 sq. m.) of space, 100’ infinity-edge pool, and automated glass walls.
Sitting on no less impressive 71-acre lot the house is relatively new. It was built in 2011 and features a tapered roof and a nearby pond.

Mar de Luz modern mansion in Peru is Oscar Gonzalez Moix‘s project. The 8,374-square-foot (778 sq m) home has a rectangular shape so common for modern houses. Resting on two parallel walls it seems to be balancing on one leg thanks to numerous glass inclusions equipped with wooden shutters.
The focus is on the roof, though. Echoing superhero costume design, it seems, the roof makes all the difference in the world for this modern mansion.
Another great example of expensive modern mansions is Satsand, a $20.7 million palace sitting on 1.14 acres of land (which is actually a hill). Built in 2001 it has over 80 solar panels, a fitness center, and its own ballroom. Not bad at all, huh?
In Holmby Hills — where the Playboy Mansion was once supposedly linked by tunnels to the homes of Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty and Kirk Douglas — this contemporary estate beckons with 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms and a dramatic 2-story living room. It sits on 1.4 acres of parklike grounds with an infinity pool, a cascading waterfall and a championship-grade tennis court. The listing agents are Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency and James Harris, David Parnes and Mauricio Umansky from The Agency.
Just up the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles is the outdoor playground of Malibu, where surfers strut and celebrities relax — or, in the case of this home, where they shoot films, television shows and music videos. The 7,000-square-foot showplace has been a set for “Face/Off,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” “Beverly Hills 90210,” Britney Spears’ “Work …” video and Chris Brown’s “Fortune” album photos. The listing agent is Sandro Dazzan of Coldwell Banker.
Priced at $17,5 million the house is built in a curvilinear shape, which is refreshing to see in modern architecture. These curvy lines create two balconies with outdoor lounge spaces and in the middle there is a huge window to enjoy the water views from the inside.
It’s no wonder it won the 1st prize. Looking completely different from what we can usually see in modern mansion architecture the house simply has to be built.

The white stone so often used in architecture in that part of the world makes for a stark contrast with its sandy rock environment and deep blue horizon.

It boasts an elevator, floor-to-ceiling windows and walls of glass that open onto a private patio with a fire pit. Two huge roof decks offer 360-degree views of the city and the beach a few blocks away where Arnold Schwarzenegger once flexed. The listing agent is Tami Pardee of Pardee Properties.

Celebrities flock to this neighborhood where the streets are named for birds and the views are expansive. This spring, this one knoll carried a dozen construction sites — for homes whose owners will be neighbors with Leonardo DiCaprio, Keanu Reeves and Michael Bublé. This home, built in 2014, measures 12,530 square feet. Its master suite alone takes up 2,000 square feet, with a soaking tub, his and her showers and dressing areas and a glass wall with sweeping views of the city. The listing agents are Branden and Rayni R. Williams of Hilton & Hyland and Ben Bacal of Rodeo Realty.
This house design project looks like a total architectural extravaganza, but as far as modern mansion architecture goes, it might just bring something fresh to the industry.
Sandwiched between the famed Mulholland Drive and posh Bel-Air, this estate by architect Ted Tokio Tanaka was built in 1986 and completely overhauled in 2008. It sits on 3.2 acres with city and ocean views and features a glass elevator, sun-filled rooms and walls of glass that open onto generous lawns, a pool that’s integrated into the home’s design and a tennis court. Kurt Rappaport is also the listing agent for this home.
Lying between two ski areas in Utah’s Cottonwood Canyon the modern chalet features 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and (predictably) 3 fireplaces. If that’s not enough for you, there is also a breakfast bar, a manager’s apartment, a hot tub, and a garage.
If you don’t like modern mansions, don’t stop here, but I’m telling you, you’re going to miss one hell of a home. “Smart shape”, unseen elegance, modern furniture, incredibly beautiful design…Those are only a few things this magnificent mansion offers. Take a look!

There’s a joke in Los Angeles real estate that the rich live in Beverly Hills, the famous in Malibu and neither in Pacific Palisades. It’s not true. Famous residents have included Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Rosanna Arquette, Dan Aykroyd and Tyra Banks. It’s just a quiet area that happens to have some of the best city and ocean views around — including from this new mansion with walls of glass that open onto a large yard with an infinity pool. There’s also a rooftop deck with a fire pit and hot tub. Santiago Arana is the listing agent for this home as well.
Its exterior definitely makes it stand out among the rest of designs. As opposed to endless glass the U-shaped facade features decorative small windows and a complex layered design.

So, why is this “smart shape”? As architects from SAOTA said, “The houses have a U-shaped configuration organised around an internal courtyard and allows access to all of the living spaces and the swimming pool. A perforated wall separates the public forecourt from the private spaces”. Cool huh? Plus, no one can peek over the fence. Perfect for everyone obsessed with the privacy.

This glass modern mansion in Utah we found featured on Curbed seems like a relatively modest modern home. At a price of ‘just’ $5,8 million there has to be more to it than an impressive exterior, right?

6th 1448 Houghton is the name of this incredible modern mansion, located in Houghton Estate, one of the wealthiest suburbs of Johannesburg in South Africa. While usually mansions designed by SAOTA have ocean as their “backyard” (they are usually located somewhere on the cliffs), 6th 1448 home offers large green grassy backyard, which in my opinion goes perfectly with this design.

It’s true that many modern mansions have that museum quality about them. You can see that as a good thing or a bad thing, but with square footage of an average mansion (regardless of its style) it’s hard to escape it.
Mansions are the pinnacle of luxury when it comes to home design (let’s be honest, how many people in the world live in an actual castle). Modern mansions though look very different from their French and Colonial style counterparts. They have many more angles and unusual forms. a lot of glass goes into them as well as marble, concrete, and metal. They are truly special.

Interiors of this modern mansion are another great success when we talk about design. I would actually call them perfect because I have no idea what else could I ask to make it better. Great job Antoni Associates. “The décor and furniture selected are modern and have strong lines to complement the linear architecture. A number of bespoke furniture pieces were designed by OKHA Interiors. Neutral palettes with accent colours have been used throughout. Strong graphic rugs add drama and texture to the rooms which offset against the solid architectural surfaces. Curated art by South African artists amongst others Lyndi Sales and Philip Barlow have been placed throughout the house”. Gorgeous, isn’t it?
